Did you mean:

my phone number is calling people, that I am not calling

I have a 780-819 phone number. This sounds weird, I know. But I get about 6 random phone calls from other 780-819 numbers a week.

When or if I answer, because I often disregard, they are always "returning" my call, or accuse me of calling them first. I am not calling these people, I have no idea why my phone number is being used to auto dial a ton of other 819 numbers.

I've talked to Telus twice and both times they have told me I'm making it up, and they've never heard of that, nothing they can do. I made my phone number show up as outgoing restricted call display, but since these calls are not coming from my phone, I am still getting these phone calls! My next step is to inevitably change my number.

But I was hoping someone else has a similar experience or can offer a bit of advice to hopefully curb this, or even offer an opinion as to why or how this is happening?

Scammers will spoof random phone numbers via VOIP applications.

The Authorities generally ignore the problem because of these calls mostly coming from overseas and their country don't care about stopping it.

The partial problem is people who call back to phone numbers that called them, asking why they called, and thats your predicament.

The latest trend is to spoof the same prefix as the numbers they are calling. So if they are targeting 780-819-xxxx numbers with their auto-dialer then they will spoof some random number with the same prefix. I get those calls all the time but I generally ignore all numbers not in my contacts.

There can be very good reasons for people returning calls....

I have had this happen recently on my 250-812 number.  When I contacted Telus they acknowledged it but its really out of their control.

I had a similar case last year by july my Phone it was receiving, ghost calls from a Ph# (1 000 000 000)  I didn't answer when started, never left a msge, but one day I decided to answer, when I said "Who's this" I heard un-audible voices+sounds in the backround the call get cut. Could be like 'Nasty' said scammers trying to spoof info.

My phone is protected with (McAfee Mobile Av's) so I entered the Ph (1 000 000 000) in the "McAfee. No call list" They didn't call again. Also I made a google research, found this software called 'WhoCallsMe' login here's the link: http://www.whocallsme.com/ - They explain and offer, some solutions as to how to stops the

calls, plus you can read comments, about this issue. Post results -Ps   <Bye>   "v9"

I also get these calls. (780-554-XXXX) They started last year and went away. They started again recently and I checked to see what Telus had sugggested I do last time, and it turns out it is almost a year to the day it last happened.

Anyways, Telus suggested I reset my Network settings on my phone and that seems to help. If the calling doesn't go away maybe this might help you as well.

Good luck!

Hmm.... in the old days, you can just change your number.  However, I find some of the unused available numbers also have been spoofed and abandoned to receive more nuisance calls.

I'm looking forward to the new area code, hoping the situation gets better until the next wardialer comes along.  Wish I could change my number to a 1-900 service to make some money off these nuisance callers.
