I have a HTC One M7 and starting Nov 5 (out of the blue) my phone randomly switched to -3:30 Newfoundland time compared to the correct setting of -5:00 here in Windsor, On. I have tried restarting phone, turning auto time and auto time zone off and on, leaving off, I can set manually, but my widgets still display the wrong time. Turning back on results in a instantaneous time switch back to the incorrect time. Any ideas?

Have you travelled far enough to connect to another cell tower? It is possible that the cell network is broadcasting an incorrect time stamp. Are friends experiencing the same or different?

I'm experiencing the same problem. I can set the time manually but on auto it too sets to GMT-3:30 Newfoundland Standard Time on my HTC one 7 when it should be on GMT-05:00 Eastern Standard Time. Why is this happening and how can it be fixed without fixing it manually?

Are you also located in Windsor?

Yes I too live in Windsor and have been experiencing the same problem. I did not travel anywhere to have my time zone change. My phone just changed on its own. I should not have to set my phone's time manually and even if I do, my widgets will continue to display the incorrect time. By morning, the time corrected itself but when I need to rely on time for something (like work), I want to rely on the correct time and not the wrong time.

Likely a time zone setting error on one cell tower, then. Looks like it has been corrected.

I'm having the same issue. I don't believe it's been fixed. I think the problem is that when it auto selects Windsor based on location the system is setting it to Windsor Newfoundland. Somewhere in the system Windsor is setup to the Windsor Newfoundland time zone even if it's Windsor Ontario.

If it is the phone itself selecting this, not much Telus can do about it. Timezone stamps are sent by the cellular towers, using timezones from the ICANN tz database. America/Windsor is not listed in this database, so should not be an issue. You should be able check your phone to see the tz info sent it under the Date and Time settings.
IT is possible that the cell towers in Windsor are broadcasting an incorrect timezone, but so far, no one has shared info to help this community determine what might be happening.
BTW, is your phone an HTC?

I think it may be a problem with HTC. I just found a page that is very recent regarding our issue.

When I use the HTC weather/clock widget, even if I set the time zone manually, it will still display the wrong time regardless if the phone time is correct. Changing the setting from "current location" to Windsor, Canada (by typing it in and; does not say Ontario) Still gives the wrong time. By switching to London, Canada the time does display correctly. Leading me to believe something, maybe an update, has lead the phone to believe Windsor, ontario is now Windsor, in the atlantic.

Thanks for sharing!
Interestingly, Windsor, NL has been known as Grand Falls-Windsor for decades (Since the amalgamation of the towns Grand Falls and Windsor in 1991) so confusion with the city in Ontario should not exist.

Yea, I was thinking the same. Only other idea is Windsor in Nova Scotia, but that is only -4:00 not -3:30 for Newfoundland. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. I just ordered a HTC m9 because of the sale for $0 and that will suck.

Okay, I have figured it out. The last update for HTC service pack has done something and messed the time zones up, not sure for how many or just for us in Windsor. I uninstalled the updates and switched auto time zone on, and switched the widget back to current location and the time has stayed the correct time! Unfortunately it keeps showing a pop-up saying app will not run without it being updated and leaves a icon on the status bar and lock screen. Hopefully HTC will see their error and fix it ASAP.

HTC might need to be told.

Well I went on their live chat and told a rep and asked that they let their company know about it. They said they would, so we'll see.

I too have this issue on my htc one m9 here in windsor, I think we should hammer htc with posts and comments about getting this issue fixed, cause it needs to be fixed asap!!!

It's not just Windsor folks, my wife's HTC M7 here in Oakville is doing the same thing. I fixed hers by choosing automatic time and setting the time zone to New York City. Several reboots and so far it's ok

Good morning @GrahamC, just out of curiosity, was the latest software update done on the device?

Can you check if it's up to date and then let us know?

If I go into the About screen and manually check for phone updates, it says there are no updates available. I guess I should mention that her carrier is Virgin. I only wound up here as we were looking for information. We are a split carrier family. I'm with Telus, she is not.
