Roaming is one service that Telus should definitely look at being more competitive at. Rogers offers Roam Like Home (http://www.rogers.com/consumer/wireless/travel) where customers pay $5/day to a maximum of $50 (or 10 days) to leverage their existing plan for calling, texting and data while travelling in the US. This would be a great addition to the Roaming options at Telus.
However, my biggest gripe with Telus is that I pay every month for unlimited North American calling - which allows me to call anywhere in Canada and the US unlimitedly. I feel it's ridiculous that I have to pay even extra to add on a roaming pass for when I travel to the US.
Even with a roaming pass like the Rogers Roam Like Home pass, for the sake of making a few bucks per day from me, recognize that I have a larger monthly plan commitment that includes the US - and just make my plan continue to the US without additional cost.
The "one size fits all" approach to plans is very dated thinking. It's time that Telus takes a more proactive approach and recognize that each customer's needs are unique and should be addressed that way.

There is, of course a big difference between the interconnect to allow you call to go to a US number vs using another carrier's network to make calls. Arguably, if there were as many Americans needing Canadian roaming as Canadians wanting US roaming, the transfers of funds would be equal, and costs would decline. I doubt we are there yet.

NF to BC is correct of course. But the big point is that roaming has historically been "I'll rip off my customers if you'll rip off yours" and we'll share the profits. It is difficult to imagine that some of the places in the world where service is the cheapest for the local residents are also amongst the most expensive for us to roam in. I can understand where it might be difficult on a cruise ship or airplane, where bandwidth is limited, but not when roaming to land areas. Of course, the premise that they give you an IP address from your home country even whilst roaming probably adds to the costs but gives little benefit....there needs to be some big improvements made here. And all the Canadian carriers need to compete.
Telus has always been good at listening to its clients. I recommend posting ideas and suggestions anywhere you can find, Facebook, Twitter,Telus.com and forums like this one and keep an eye out on the website for updates. I'm sure at some point the message will be heard and addressed.
Thank you Pocket. There are more than enough places for Telus to know about Rogers' roaming plans. They did come up with an $80 US roaming plan, which although better than what they had before, is not as flexible nor as workable as the Rogers one. In Europe, there's no comparison. I am not so sure the message will be heard and addressed. But I would love to be proven wrong.
