Long distance distance called Local

Joanna-Gillett
Just Moved In

We have an unlimited long distance but only 150 local daytime minutes

We had travelled out of our local area in Northern BC and made several calls from Victoria to Duncan, Cobble Hill, and Cowachin as well called from Courtenay to Victoria and found these calls were charged against our local minutes and not our long distance

Where can the information be found to know what is long distance and what is local?

It gets expensive finding out at billing time.

thanks

Welcome to the Neighbourhood @Joanna-Gillett 🙂

So this is a problem I used to encounter all the time back before the days of unlimited calling plans. Basically, what these features do is make it so that all of your local airtime is turned into LD airtime. Once you run out of local airtime, you are charged whatever overage rate you have in place for your plan. These unlimited LD features were beneficial to people who had unlimited evening and weekends included in their plan, because you wouldn't have to use your daytime minutes.

Depending on how much you are paying, it might be beneficial to move to one of TELUS' unlimited airtime plans.

Hi there, you can do a search on Google using your mobile number to find out which locations are local and which ones are not. If you call a number that's long-distance, you'll hear a message telling you about it, before placing your call.
