Just Moved In
I will be 18 next month and planned on getting my own telus account and setting up my own phone but I don’t have any credit or a credit card. I live in British Columbia. Can I still get a telus account without credit?

Hi @ks6000 ,

Happy early birthday!

Here is some information you may find helpful.

Legal age to activate a prepaid account

Any age can create a prepaid account.

Legal age to activate a postpaid account

Depending on the province you live in, the legal age may differ.

Legal Age: 19

  • British Columbia
  • Nova Scotia
  • New Brunswick
  • Newfoundland & Labrador
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nunavut
  • Yukon

Legal Age: 18

  • Alberta
  • Saskatchewan
  • Manitoba
  • Ontario
  • Quebec
  • PEI

Do you need credit to get approved?

No. You do not need credit to open a TELUS Postpaid Mobility account. By creating an account and paying your bills on time each month will actually build you credit very fast. For those who have zero credit, you may notice a few restrictions such as the ability to get premium phones for $0 upfront, or you may only be able to activate 1 line on your account, but cant add a tablet etc. Once the account is created, the agent will be able to provide you the details of what you can, and cant do. After 6 months or a year of good payment history, you will gain access to more features.

I don't have a credit card, can I still create an postpaid account?

Yes you can. We will require 2 of the 3 pieces of ID.

  • Drivers Licence Number
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Credit Card.

Hopefully that answers your questions and concerns 🙂
