Maybe you are in an area with no service? The carriers do not have 100% service everywhere you go.

My friend had issues with their 4S too, but sometimes taking out the SIM card and putting it back in would fix it.
Worth a shot?

For your iPhones, please give TELUS a call. It may be a switch issue if you are finding that you can text but can't call out. There is no way to fix it on your end. We have a system that we can push the signal, ask you to do a power cycle, and try one more time. *611 to get a hold of us but please call us on a landline at 1-866-558-2273 so we can troubleshoot.
Cheers!

For this question, we require a bit more information:
- Where are you located?
- If you are in Alberta, are you affected by the recent flooding?
- Are you located in an area surrounded by greenery?
- Are you up in a tall building or in a lower level of a building?
These are details we need to make a valid assessment of your situation. Please let us know.
Cheers,

I have the same problem (iphone4) No calls in or out but I can send text messages. I am in the same place that I always have service.
it states Telus as provider under carrier setting.... but only displays bars and wifi logo on top left

Another good tip is to go to Settings, General, Reset and perform a Reset network settings.

Goto settings / Cellular / and then there are 2 toggles:
cellular data = this is access to cellular internet usage, turn this on or off to your liking
enable 3G = this tells your phone to use or not use the 3rd generation network
Make sure the 3G option is on, many areas Telus does not support networks older than 3G

THANK YOU!! Ah this totally solved my problem. I had 'no service' where I normally could get it, but I wanted to keep my data usage off and this is the perfect fix.
