I'm happy with my iPhone 5. I appreciate the interconnectedness of various Apple devices, and the simplicity of the use for others in my family. I expect there are apps to meet most folks needs on both platforms, and there is no shortage on the Apple iTunes Store. I use messaging, web, GPS, and a number of forum participation apps.
iPhone seems to be adopted by many enterprise clients, and there is lots of support available due to the similarity of operations between phones. A quick review of the devices forum here may indicate the challenges folks are having with various devices.
Some folks state that if you are wedded to the Google ecosystem, a Nexus is a stellar choice; if deeply into the Microsoft world a Windows phone is a good choice (says my brother the IT manager), and of course, as I stated earlier if you have invested in Apple gear, then the iPhone makes sense.
I am a victim of the iPhone halo effect -- I switched to Apple products having used DOS, Windows, OS/2, Linux, and Windows again, after the purchase of my first iPhone.
It is also wonderful to see the enjoyment of others as they discover the things you can do. My senior neighbours are gushing at the discovery of connectedness to their grandchildren through FaceTime. It needed no set up they just pressed "Answer Call" one night, and were chatting in an instant. They were amazed!
Try one. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
