Can I check my email while at the hotel with free wifi if I remove my Sim card?

Yes, you can.... however...

  • hotel wifi is unsecured.  Best to use a VPN like SurfEasy to minimize data eavesdropping on userid's and passwords
  • hotel wifi can be congested by heavy usage by other guests, I like to use a US sim on my unlocked phone
  • some hotels charge you for wifi.... do you have wifi when you are not in the building?  Do you plan to spend the entire trip inside the hotel?  If not US sim cards are a great choice so you are not limited to the hotel.
  • Telus US travel passes are great for light usage.  For heavy use, I like Roam Mobility when not in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming or Jellystone.  Click on this link on the great rates.  It's available at London Drugs, airports, and duty free stops prior to crossing the US border to an unlocked phone.
