For me, I think the miss is on biometrics. I'd be in to seeing activity, steps (pedometer), heart rate, blood sugar, that sort of thing. I wonder about extensibility, but I don't think there's an accelerometer or altimeter?
But I agree with @Silver_Arrow - it looks like a first cut. I expect this space to get really competitive in the next year or two between this, Pebble, Fitbit, Nike, Jawbone and others doign some pretty neat stuff.

I hated watches decades ago when they needed daily wind up to work. I love my LCD watch where the battery is changed annually. How long does it take these fancy watches to charge? Sounds like a throwback to the yesteryear.
Also are these things splash and water resistant? I hate to need a replacement after washing my hands in a public restroom. People wash their hands.... don't they?

I like the gear, but it does have some serious drawbacks. Only works on the Note 3 at launch for instance, and a battery that doesn't last a day. However I view it very much like a first generation product.
The first iPhone didn't have 3G and was like $500 on contract.. The first iPad didn't have cameras and was huge. And just a few years later they greatly improved and the price dropped and they became much more common place.
That's how I view the Gear. It is great, for a first generation product. I myself will wait for the second generation one that hopefully is compatible with non Samsung phones. But as a first generation product, for the most part, it blows away my expectations.
