Some ideas

  • install tracking software if the iPad is stolen or misplaced

  • give your iPad a password
  • backup the iPad!
  • consider VPN software if you plan to be using public wifi (hotels and restaurants)
  • do you plan to use the hot spot feature on your phone? How much data do you normally use and plan to use? Are you doing a SIM card swap to minimize roaming charges? Who has US coverage where you are going? What are their rates?  Compare your US plans and coverage with Roam Mobility.

  • charge the iPad before going. Consider a high mah external battery if the iPad will be used a lot. You will really want an external battery if the phone's hot spot feature is used.

Are you renting a vehicle? My Thrifty minivan van came with a 120v socket. Great to keep the kids entertained with their electronic creature comforts while trapped in a 1hr toll booth line.
