Parents seeing text messages

Hi, so I am part of my dads telus phone plan. He pays for my phone. I have and iPhone 6. Can my dad (the owner of the account and or plan) see my text messages or iMessages? Thanks!

Do you also share an Apple account?  If so, then that is more than likely how your dad can see your texts.

Not unless you also share an Apple ID. You will know if you are sharing an Apple ID because you will be able to see his text messages as well.

The person would not be able to see their parents text messages if their account is a parental controlled account but that would still allow the parents to see their text messages.

There are no restrictions or controls on messages on an iPhone. If both phones are logged into the same Apple ID then both phones will see all the same messages.

Regardless, I don't think that the OP is sharing an Apple ID or they would know it. In other words I don't think they have anything to worry about.

A child's account can be created through an Apple Account where it is a somewhat separate account but the parent account can see, monitor, and restrict access to things.  Obviously, we have no idea which method they are actually using but it can be done this way so they only see the texts and stuff from the account without the child account seeing the texts and such of the parent account.

You're talking about Family Sharing. As far as I know, although a Parent can create an Apple ID for a child they cannot monitor the use of the Messages app. There is no provision for that as part of Family Sharing.

After some research I found a workaround that allows a person to receive messages from another iOS device, for example a child's iOS device. It is explained here.

This is a workaround not a feature of iOS, and it can break with future updates to iOS.
