Hi Folks,

We know many of you are waiting anxiously for the Android M update on the Note 5 & S6/Edge devices. The update was delayed because of a bug Samsung discovered during testing.

We will post a revised timeline once the OEM submits a new build.

@IT_Dave , as a consumer you should also be aware of what you're buying. What was released in October 2015 was the plain, stock version of Android. Samsung uses a heavily modified version of Android to enable all the features and Samsung crap they cram in there. Those heavy modifications add a lot of bugs. Some they catch before they release it, many afterwards. Samsung has a long documented history of delaying updates for devices in many countries due to bugs. Normally they are 4-6 months behind Nexus devices as are many other device manufacturers.

I just got the update when I went to software update and clicked on check for update.  I know it said tomorrow but here it is for the Note 5:

May not be available on all servers yet, but I'm downloading the update now as well (Hamilton, Ontario).

Telus is just full of surprises.

Still nothing on my Note 5, what is taking so long?  I have the SM-N920i.  Could that be why?

The SM-N920i is the correct one that was released for Canada. There are three other models. 2 are USA specific: N920T (T-Mobile); N920A (AT&T), and one for India: N920G

Updates are usually released in batches. If some other Telus users have it already, it shouldn't be long before you receive it, if you bought it from Telus.

Note 5 goes from March 9th, to March 16th, go March 25thAt this rate Android N will be on Nexus devices before the Note gets M. I'm going back to Nexus for my next device for sure.

I bought a note 5 thinking marshmallow was already available on March 16th. I had read it would be available on the 9th. Now after seeing all these delays which have been going on all month. Come on telus get it together, the g3 shouldn't be updated before the note

Awesome, I just got it too. Very smooth upgrade.

Can someone please tell me why the data connection icon on the Note 5 (pretty much all Touchwiz devices) is hidden from the quick settings menu?  I so hoped it would be fixed by the Marshmallow update - the initial screenshots from the first Korean updates showed a data toggle icon in the quick settings, so I'm quite disappointed by this.  It has been this way on Telus Samsung devices since my kid's S4 was upgraded to Jellybean 4.3 or Kitkat.  Initially on JB 4.2 it was available.  My Note 5 and daughter's S6 have never had it on the quick settings menu and it so cumbersome to go to settings to toggle it, while all the other connectivity settings are available from the quick settings.  I tried the new S7 GoodLock app that replaces the systemui and it has an AOSP-like quick settings with the data connection icon available, so I know it's just a system ui thing and not a system security measure.  Does Telus mandate that it be unavailable from quick settings?  If so, why?  And is there a way to get it back?  Can you please escalate this as a bug too since it truly hinders the user experience?

Thanks

Just installed Marshmallow on my Note 5.

I've only had a few minutes with it but have already found 1 issue with the main quick settings (not the notification drop down quick settings).

I can't enable 9, only 8.

I can choose a 9th and the count will show 9/9 but only 8 will be enabled.

A Kron, I appreciate the update but the disappointment is palpable.

You've got to understand that going from March 9 to March 25 by way of 3 or 4 extensions to what is now "Delayed" is just not sitting right with us.  From all that is read and you guys published before, Samsung would ready the update after which Telus would review and test it with another Samsung update and Telus review.  Why would Samsung still be finding bugs if its this close to release?  What about the numerous carriers who have already pushed out the update? We're not hearing about massive failures around the globe, so why would this only be for the Canadian variant?  Why not fix it ASAP post update with a much smaller bug fix or security update push?  Yes, I get that software is notoriously difficult to deliver perfectly and on schedule, but this here seems like too much is done too late.

The problem is that we're completely losing faith in any of these posted dates.  Again, I appreciate it that Telus wanted us to have a date that we could count on, as opposed to other carriers not even publishing it, but by now I'm I feel like I've worked through Elizabeth Kubler-Ross' 5 stages of grief enough times.  And it's when you hit that 5th one, and accept that Telus and Samsung are not serious about keeping this schedule, that we consider joining Wind Mobile using our antiquated iPhone 4's.  That horror, is at least one of our own making.

@nakedgeezer that is not a bug, that is a UX decision made my samsung canada. It is the same across all carriers here. I would suggest reaching out to them to petition them for a change.

Sounds to me from his response that they are going to push again cause
Samsung is fixing the bug.
