Hi-@hjmurray: Welcome to the forum. In addition to NftoBc & Nighthawk answers, logged in the link provided down-below. I wonder why do you need to check the Phone IMEI-#. Usually is found in the Phone (battery housing) or in the original tiny box, when you purchased or get it from your mobile provider.
If you bought a 2nd-hand phone and wanto check if it's been blacklisted-this link may help you out. http://www.protectyourdata.ca/check-the-status-of-your-device-in-canada..PS report results to forum. Thanks <V9>

I found protectyourdata.ca with a web search. Possibly that's what you're looking for?

Is it the one to see if the phone is compatible with Telus? It's under the big green button on http://www.telus.com/en/ab/mobility/services/bring-your-own-device/ (Direct: http://mobility.telus.com/bring-own-device/check-device.shtml?INTCMP=TcomBtnBYOD)

@v9 - Checking the IMEI number on the Telus website can tell someone who has the phone it if's potentially compatible with Telus' network. The original poster likely knows his IMEI number judging by his question. IMEI numbers from international phones may or may not work (depends on device, manufacturer).

Thanks for the URL on the Telus site. I bought a used BlackBerry Z10 and needed to check the IMEI number for compatibility. I now find it is not compatible with Telus but it is for the Bell network. I don't understand why that would be.

Some devices are locked to a specific carrier though I didn't think that showed on the IMEI. Normally if the Z10 is unlocked, it should work fine with Telus since Telus and Bell's networks are compatible and they even share towers in some areas.

Huh? This sounds way to complicated. Just dial this combination on your phone!

The phone was unlocked when bought it so I first checked the IMEI on the 'Protect your data.ca' site. Then I checked it out on the Telus site and it said it was not compatible.

I believe Bell and Telus uses the same equipment. This they often partner their coverage across Canada.
So what happens when you plug in a Telus SIM? Does it say the sim is not compatible or the carrier? Is there a way you can confirm the phone is unlocked?

Since the Telus check said it was not compatible I didn't bother getting a Telus SIM. I went straight to Bell.

@hjmurray the Z10 is most definitely compatible if it works on Bell. TELUS, Bell and Rogers all use the same HSPA frequencies, 850/1900, and 2100 for LTE.

The phone spec is compatible but it's probably locked to another carrier.
