Hi. It is generally recommended to use WPA, as it is known to be more secure.
The main difference between the 2 is the ability to use specific characters in the password. It can also depend on the devices you are using.
Wifi security is important to avoid abuse by unwanted users.
- WPA is better than WEP
- WPA2 is even better
- consider adding MAC filter to block users that are able to harvest your password
- consider SSID supression too
- disable file/print sharing if you do not need it
- using public wifi or hotel wifi.... consider a VPN to prevent data eavesdropping
