The current services are pretty lacking and the price for the internet we can get is ridiculous.

It also can depend on the age & condition of the existing infrastructure. Trail, BC was an early fibre install because the copper was in such poor condition. It made more sense to upgrade to fibre, rather than replace copper.

The downside in living in an small town is infrastructure upgrades. There will be a significant cost to upgrade a community of under 2500. I believe you can get 15mbps at the moment. While it's not the fastest. It will allow you to stream Netflix, YouTube Etc easily.

That being said the recent crtc decision that deems it a basic service, an set a 5 year plan in motion to provide 50mbps. Will it come to fruition, one will have to wait and see.

Here on the west coast Tofino, BC was recently upgraded to Fibre after having some of the slowest internet on the island (couldn't even stream video).

While we have no internal knowledge of the inner working of Telus. I do believe they do have an upgrade roadmap in mind for communities.
