TELUS hosts a server on speedtest.net. There are TELUS-ized versions of Speedtest available here:
BC: http://vancouver.speedtest.telus.com/
AB: http://edmonton.speedtest.telus.com
QC: http://rimouski.speedtest.telus.com/
The results you get here should be identical to what you'd get through speedtest.net, just without all the annoying/confusing advertisements.

- Most use http://www.speedtest.net/. However I find the advertisements confusing
- Shaw is an alternative http://speedtest.shaw.ca/, but some devices has problems with the java. Basically I use both to get an average.
- For mobile devices, there are applications to do the test. Check the App Store.

Thanks for providing these links! I heard about them, but did not know the URL. I hate sending people to that speedtest site and getting people confused with the advertisements.
