Pure Optik wifi connection on iPad constantly hangs

When my iPad is in a room other than the one where my main box is located, wifi is slow and stops every couple of minutes. Only way to get it going again is to turn wifi off and on again on iPad. DNS issue? Anyone have suggestions? The Telus chat function got me absolutely nowhere. Thanks.

- What Telus modem do you have?
- What iPad version?
- Are you connected to the 5ghz or 2.4ghz channel?
- Are there many wifi connections that show up in the list?
- Single family dwelling, Apartment, Condo?
- Signal strength of the wifi connection in the problem rooms?

It's a T3200M
iPad is 3rd generation
2.4ghz (5ghz doesn't even appear)
There are a couple of wifi connections that show up, which belong to the neighbours, I believe
Single detached rancher, only about 1500 square feet
Signal strength in problem rooms starts off at highest bar, then eventually loses a bar, then another bar until it just hangs

I wonder if Smart Steering is enabled in the wireless settings on the T3200M. That can cause wifi to drop out when it switches channels if a device has a weak signal. I disabled that on my T3200 a while back and it improved wireless stability for me.

Log in to the modem

Click on the Wireless Setup icon at the top

Click SmartSteering in the list on the left.

Choose Disable then hit Apply.
