I can't play online games with 100% packet loss. Help?

Some devices will NOT respond to pings. That is the normal state for them. Also if there is a firewall blocking pings it'll show the same result. Nothing unusual there. If it was complete packet loss then you wouldn't see the remaining hops further down the list, let alone being able to access the forums here.

  • Which game?
  • Server URL/address?
  • Latency in game?
  • Are you using wired/wireless/cell/other?
  • Modem/router?
  • Try WinMTR (free) as it's more informative than just a simple traceroute.

I wouldn't trust easo.com as a good test server as it is either in Mexico or further south. I'm pretty sure EA's servers are in the USA somewhere. Finding where online is nearly impossible. See if EA support can give you at least one actual game server address to test.

What platform are you using? (PC/Xbone/PS4) Is it wireless? If yes, is there any chance you can try hardwired? You're on fiber so the lag should not be on your end aside from any wireless interference.

PS4. But I have sluggish gameplay across all platforms. I can't use wired connection because of where they installed the equipment.

Can you let MTR run longer? Minimum 100 packets sent/rcv though more is better. I'm really curious about those 200ms+ spikes you are showing on the "worst" column. even to your home router. I'm curious what the average results are. Also your average latency results to 10.31.20.1 seem high also even with 0% packet loss.

The fact that the connection to that test server routes from Seattle to Dallas TX (slower state) then to California (another slower state), it doesn't help. There's definitely a bottleneck at the 12th hop on there (prolexic) but that's far outside Telus' network. Prolexic is part of Akamai's cloud security platform and with it filtering and redirecting traffic, that could explain a latency increase. Finding the actual IP/address of some of the game servers would make things a bit easier.

Do you ever game online on your PC/PS4 using non-EA games? Is there a difference?

My MTR going through two routers, non-bridged:

I play Call of Duty, Rainbow Six, GTA 5 and they are all about the same amount of delay.

Ok, those "worst" column numbers are horrid, not normal and since they are on the first line as well, likely originating in your house. If your console is experiencing the same intermittent spikes, that potentially could throw things off when gaming. Is that PC you are using wireless and is it connected to the V1000 or that range extender?

Looks like range extender may be part of the problem. If you're on fiber (white Alcatel box the Actiontec is connected to), maybe see if Telus will send you an Actiontec T3200 to replace the V1000. Hardwiring would be ideal though not always possible.
