RCS and smart replies for Android messages

Hi, please release and enable RCS aka chat and also the smart replies within Android messages! I can't believe that all other major carriers did release those 2 features but Telus didn't yet.
Status: In progress

I sure hope they roll this (RCS) out soon or at least provide some kind of timeline or I am switching to Bell (who has RCS). Its comical that the status of this is "New Idea". Come on telus why do we have to be the last ones...

Smart Reply is nothing to do with Telus, and it is available. Makes sure you have the most up to date Android Messages App and look in your settings to turn it on.

@Mathieu @tpab Thanks for the idea. This has been on our radar, and we will be supporting it soon. We will update this page once it is ready Smiley Happy

Status changed to: In progress

Can you define "soon"?  It's been "soon" for a long, long time now.  If you truly have plans for a "release", like all "plans", they have an estimated completion date.  If you don't have a completion date, then it's not a "plan" it's a intention.  Sorry for being cynical but I'm guessing you wont have an answer (ie weeks, 2 months, etc).

@psl I've been hearing this exact same information that you provided for the last couple of months....to be more precised for at least 7 months. I can't believe that other Canadian carriers has released this even freedom did release it like 2 weeks ago and yet Telus doesn't provide at least some real information about this to us, your clients!

Also might tell your clients that RCS will only work with Pixel 2 phones, right?!

@psl no updates to this since October... Any word on the time frame for this. I work on a aftermarket android os in my spare time and still can't believe I don't have this option available to me yet.

@psl hi! I've noticed that you didn't reply for a while concerning our comments and questions. It's not hard to provide a real answer for us. It's been a year now that RCS has been giving to Telus to implement and yet no real update or answers, always just the same vague replies.

I've complained to CRTC about the issue, and I implore everyone else to do the same

Telus signed on to Universal Profile when, in 2016 or so? It's 2019 and they don't even have a roadmap let alone a network release.

Since when did the CRTC police features that are not offered or CRTC mandated as being part of services to be offered? Complaining about a missing feature to them won't get it out any faster because the CRTC has no power to force a telecom to offer an optional feature.

Universal Profile is just a set of base features that will allow for an easier time when rolling out RCS whenever each of the members decides to do so. The number of providers signed on to the Universal Profile is a minority of global telecom companies so it's far from being truly universal. Considering the GSMA has been working on the RCS standard for over a decade now and they've still only got minority market penetration, makes you wonder exactly what their plan actually is and if the association is competent enough to get the job done. Apple's iMessage was rolled out with a new revision of iOS and iMessage is all done from Apple's end so they didn't have to worry about any issues with users getting the feature all at once and dealing with individual telecoms having to install proprietary hardware and software to get it to work. GSMA and did it the backwards way by pushing it out to individual companies to implement without any semblance of a timeline nor truly global support from the industry.

@pslIt's been 6 months. Are there any updates about RCS support on the TELUS network? Even Freedom Mobile supports it and they're a much smaller company with fewer resources.

I've tweeted Telus and they just keep saying they can't release any info over twitter but keep an eye on their website. Same response over and over
