Bridge mode for Zyxel gateways

nasty
Rockstar

Many other ISP easily provide bridge mode on their Gateways.

What we ask for is Bridge mode to be allowed(user interface button or Telus Tech switched) on the Zyxel Gateways.

The Telus Tech agents at one time were able to provide Telus switched bridge mode.

That allow for Telus to still do firmware updates.

We would hope that the bridge mode will not be needed to be reapplied at every firmware update.

If Telus allow bridge mode, we will graciously accept no support, other than the only support allowed will be our computer plugged direct into the bridged gateway for any trouble shooting of a Telus issue.

The detail on the users account will state that their Gateway being bridged. The call Agent can then state that support will be limited to confirming connectivity/speed between Telus and the bridged Gateway via the user's computer directly connected.

Users Please Note: If a user has Telus Optik TV,  for TV signal quality control, Telus hates bridge mode on a Actiontec Gateway.

Not everyone knows how to configure Optik TV on their own modern routers behind a bridged gateway. Many users have full success running a bridged gateway and Optik TV.  These users do not call Telus when TV signal problems happen.

Telus Please Note: Many of us only use Telus Internet and do not want any extra products. We won't buy anything beyond Internet. Having only Gateway mode available will not make us buy more products that Gateway mode can deliver.

For those other users who need full control and configuration of their own local network, you can buy a Vdsl Zyxel Gateway at an online retail store.  Telus will not provide any support for your own Gateway, bridged or non-bridged.

I forgot to add.

If you are on a fibre to the home/business, you do not need the Telus Gateway. Use your own router.

Actiontec as a router for TV, unless you know how to route Optik TV traffic on your own router.

Or use your two Telus IP address to split your network by using a switch first at the ONT modem.

Thank you.

The other would be for the line bonding.  Which at this time, Telus is only using Actiontec. Good for Optik TV/Internet  or just Internet.

Telus is trying to keep it simple for call support, but it creates problems on users home networks. So many gadgets in the home and times that the gateway's don't deal with them very well(wireless and port routing).

The call agent has a choice of trying to go above and beyond their criteria in support(beyond the gateway).  Suggesting customer go to paid support.   Send them here with the notation of it's a 'community member's help' site, which is good for anything that is not related to having a Telus agent who has to log into the users account to correct problems.

I have read that Telus is going to end use of the Zyxel and then going exclusive to the new Actiontec.

T2200H  ,  T1200H

http://www.actiontec.com/316.html

Even with how modern the new Actiontec is, users still want bridge mode.

With configurations on the users local network, a crippled gateway does not allow for proper control.

Still hoping the Telus bigwigs can allow bridging for Internet only users, even by repurposing the old hardware with its still fully capable modem inside.  Though it is very doubful now. Man Sad

Coming soon , Port1 bridge.

Creates a bridge on LAN port 1, allowing for your own router to access the Internet without being double NAT or Gateway restrictions. The rest of the LAN/WLAN ports still function as normal and be administered by the gateway.

ActionTec V1000H , V2000H , Zyxel , will be updated for the last time to have the function available by the end of summer.

New Actiontec T1200H , T2200H will have it already. Start of new Gateways distribution to new/repair Optik TV customers and fibre customers starts in August and September.

Not sure where the information on the update to enable Bridge Port 1 on V1000H / V2000H / ZyXEL by end of summer comes from. While that's a feature we are exploring and would be excited to introduce, there's no set timeline for when it will be available yet. Hopefully we'll be able to share updates in the near future.

Dear @nasty

We hope the insight from @FilipM helped provide background on this feature. We'll hold this idea for future consideration for now. Thanks so much for the feedback and we look forward to hearing more from you!

That sound you here is thousands and thousands of ticked off Telus users who are now stuck waiting a couple of years for a T1200H/T2200H to be made freely available to non-TV users. It has port1 bridge already and it's very easy for Actiontec and Zyxel(full bridge) to make available on the old gateways. In fact, all it takes is for the Telus tech crew to change the user interface to allow the availablity of full bridge mode.

Hundreds will go to Shaw(and fluctutating speeds), who provides bridge mode.

Those who can afford it will head off to the retail store to buy their own modems/gatways(Vdsl) to avoid the high restrictions of the Telus gateway. While at the same time bad mouthing Telus about the costs involved to be able to control their own home/work networks without Telus interfering in them with its restrictive gateway.

Suggestion for Telus users stuck with the old gateways. Start calling/emailing/chatting Telus weekly and suggest port1 bridge or full bridge and make sure that is added to the notes on your account.  When you review Telus, make sure to write that Telus gateways are highly restrictive and is the worst part of the service. Even with the rest of the service being perfect, the gateways ruin the service to the point of considering cancelling.

Contact the CRTC(which will be told to go to the CCTS). Complaint suggestion: Net Neutrality violation in regards to limiting Internet access. Port forwarding that randomly does not work. Can't use your own router without double NAT. Gateway random failures, freezing. No 5Ghz. Loss of home network security due to backdoor on Telus gateway(remote administration).

Enjoy the internet price increase in October  2014.  Current users have to keep paying for the 6 month 1/2 price new users who flip back and forth between Shaw and Telus.
