Order a new connection for your basement/rental suite under your name.
Telus can activate a second 'pair'(phone or DSL line) in the current drop(line to home) and whatever package you need.
Make sure to tell Landlord that you are putting in a new DSL service. As the Telus Tech may need to do some wiring. Either at the Demarc(grey box on side of house) or routing old/new phone lines to DSL outlet.
You can have either 'dry loop', which is no phone on the DSL line. Or you can activate it with a working phone number on the line as well.
Telus internet check availablity page.

If you are gaming wirelessly, if the signal is not strong enough, it will lag.
