It's the most wonderful time of the year! We're getting closer and closer to Christmas, so to get us all in the spirit of the season we've asked our Community Power Users (CPU's) for some holiday movie recommendations, holiday traditions, and what they've got on their wishlist! Let's get to it!

What are your holiday traditions?

Being of Dutch origin, we have two Christmas celebrations! The first is the eve of Dec. 6 which is the feast of Sinterklaas. This is believed to be the origin of the name 'Santa Clause' and based on St. Nicholas. This event involves gift giving and many Dutch treats like pepernoten, speculaas, banket, borstplaat, etc. An annual pilgrimage to the local Dutch deli prior to the date is always something we look forward to. Then we get to have the traditional Christmas celebrations as well!

Favourite holiday movie?

Love Actually has managed to become a staple in our home. A stellar cast and fun, interlinked plot lines!

What is your top wishlist item?

My current Synology NAS (network attached storage) is getting fairly dated and approaching capacity. I'd be happy to get a Synology DS220+ with a couple of Seagate IronWolf Pro 4TB NAS drives. We use these to store our documents and pictures, as well as our music collection and it's become our personal 'cloud' service making all of our files and music accessible anywhere there's an internet connection!

What are your holiday traditions?

Christmas Day turkey dinner with my brother and his family, then prime rib dinner at our place. Finally, family gift exchange and a video chat with the East coast familiy!

Favourite holiday movie?

The Holiday has become a pre-Christmas tradition. No real story, but it's a sappy story we enjoy!

What is your top wishlist item?

A Gozney Dome pizza oven! We have shared custody of their Roccbox model, but would like to expand to the breadth of foods which can be cooked in the Dome!

What are your holiday traditions?

Food, friends, and family are a big holiday tradition in my household! We'll usually make homemade cookies and sweets...often sharing them with our friends and neighbours as well! On Christmas Day, there's often a big turkey with all the fixings. Sometimes our extended family comes for dinner, and sometimes our friends join in as well! My family also loves putting up the Christmas tree and decorating the entire house, inside and out!

Favourite holiday movie?

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation It's one of the earliest Christmas movies I remember and it's been watched more than once over the years. A close second is Die Hard but many debate if that counts as a Christmas movie or not!

What is your top wishlist item?

A trip out to the Rocky Mountains and BC. I used to spend a lot of time in the mountains before 2020 and haven't had an opportunity to go since. My favourite locations include Jasper, Kananaskis, the Okanagan, and the lower mainland!

What are your holiday traditions?

Have Christmas Dinner at the in-laws with their family. Instead of turkey, every year we make something different. Christmas Eve we have a game night. Have brunch and open gifts on Christmas Day. Boxing Day we will prepare a variety of dips. Crab dip, smoked salmon and cheese platters; they don’t last long.

Favourite holiday movie?

Dr.Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas (with Jim Carrey) and the always ever popular National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

What is your top wishlist item?

Napoleon BBQ, Meat Church Rubs, Apple Watch series 8.

Thank you, CPUs, for sharing your holiday spirit! 🎅

Hoping your holiday season is merry and bright, and here's to a prosperous 2023!
