Pending Bill after 7 years after closing the account?
Hi there, I closed my Telus account in 2018 and moved out of Canada. Last week (30 Sep 2025) I accidently noticed an email in my spam box from a company called General Credit Services about an outst...

Hmm I've been receiving emails from them too about a $300 balance, but the account number GCS listed in their email is not mine! I have to wonder if GCS is working with a messed up database or if they just decided to make a buck by messaging random people. You can always file a dispute about the claim on TransUnion, which can get the debt removed from your credit score if you can prove it's not yours

Did you pay the balance to General Credit Services? I am dealing with the same thing right now. On hold with Telus to see if there are any outstanding amounts but have not made any payments to GCS, seems very suspicious. Also suspicious that it is not actually on my credit report as a collection so I am hoping it is a scam and nothing will come of it. I think it would be too old at this point to be legit?

Absolutely. It doesn't look like a Credit Agency. The original email had a phone number. The email response from the team member had a different number. Their website had a totally different numbers. Its looks like a scam. I knew I was scammed but I just couldn't take risk with my credit score so I did make a payment to GCS.

At this point, you would need to contact General Credit Services directly; and this is not a 'scam'. When one of our accounts gets sent to collections with no change in status, it's eventually purchased, in this case by GCS. This is why you'd need to contact them directly. Also, this process takes a while for sure, so that's what happened here, not someone 'sharing your information' with anyone which doesn't happen.
