Yet Another Bridging Question
This might be a dumb question so bear with me.
I've had Pure Fibre (1G) for the past two years, bridged the Telus stuff to use my own modem, all working fine.
Recently upgraded to the 3G package. Tech came and reset my NH20A so I re-enabled bridge mode on the 10G port and all seemingly good. I did (and this might be a clue) have to change the NH20A's network settings to use .2 subnet as my router immediately complained about an IP conflict.
Otherwise all going nicely, great speed, etc. However, I'm not able to access my home network from the outside world (I remote onto my home desktop often from work). This did work before.
Because I replaced the NIC in my home desktop to a 5G-capable one, I re-setup the port forwarding rules to the new MAC of the new NIC. Still no go from outside.
What I do notice, and I'm sure it wasn't like this before, is that in my own router's main screen it shows 192.168.2.1 as the "WAN IP" - I am quite certain that before it showed my true public IP address.
I am also thinking before I bridged all ports, not just the 10G one. Could this be the cause? I would think that bridging the 10G port and using that one to connect to my modem would give me the public IP right to my router.
Am I missing something really obvious? Thanks in advance and hope all that made sense!
Ok sorted!
I completely forgot that I am using the Moca port to reach my router on another floor and I assumed it was the equivalent to the 10G port when it came to bridging.
I just did a full bridge (which is what I must've done two years ago when I first got fibre) and now my router is showing the external IP as its WAN IP. I'll try remoting tomorrow when I'm at my office.
I know I lose out on Optik TV but I really don't have much interest in that. Should that change I suppose I could add my own Moca adapter to an ethernet cord plugged into the 10G port and reset and re-bridge just the 10G port again. đ
