Why my WAN IP and Internet IP is different?

2 years agoYou won't be able to use dynamic DNS services until the WAN IP and the public IP match. Same if you're trying to host a server of any kind. It will be impossible to connect as it is now.
The issue is something on Telus's end called carrier grade NAT or CGNAT. It has come up before on the forums and it has not always been fixable. Normally tech support likely won't be able to do anything about it and will likely refuse if you mention port forwarding at all as often the official stance is port forwarding is that it is not supported on residential connections.
Now, there was one four year old post that had some instructions that could be given to tech support. Whether or not it's still valid is unknown. Some of the newer Telus routers seem to have issues with port forwarding / CGNAT, especially the square white network access hub. On the older T3200M I have had luck with a public IP and port forwarding in most cases. There were a few odd ports that would not forward though and I suspect the limitation is on the WAN side and not with the router itself.
