Using a second T3200M router with Optik TV 4K box
Hi all, I have a T3200m on one side of my home that is the connected via DSL phone jacks. A coax cable runs from this router's MOCA port to a farther side of my home. At the other end of this cabl...

6 years agoAFAIK, port 1 bridging does not work with the coax/MOCA connector, only the LAN outputs.
What happens if you connect the TV directly to the MOCA adapter, instead of placing the second router there?
Have you tried a switch, instead of a router?
Why the second subnet? What happens if you turn off DHCP on the second router?

Thanks NFtoBC. The old/previous router is an Asus RT-N66U running 3rd party firmware. It is working with fine with the MOCA adapter and the Optik TV 4K box attached to it. I configured the Asus to enable IGMP snooping and the mutlicast is working fine with the TV box. So I guess that removes the MOCA adapter out as a possible cause.
The reason I tried the 2nd T3200m is the better wifi range and speed over the Asus. I'm getting 433mbps max with the T3200m vs 150mbps max with the Asus. And the reason for the 2nd subnet is to mimic the same subnet defined in the Asus. How do I disable DHCP on the 2nd T3200m?
I'm still puzzled why the 2nd T3200m can't function like the Asus for multicasting. The firmware version is 31.164L.18.
Thanks again.

OK, figured it out and it's quite simple.
- connect the MOCA adapter to the WAN port of the 2nd T3200m
- create a separate subnet on the 2nd T3200m - this will enable me to login to the 2nd T3200m like a separate router and make changes there
- on the 2nd T3200m, under the Firewall setting page disable "WAN Ping block mode". This is what's causing multicast to fail on the 2nd T3200m. All other settings i.e IGMP should be the same as factory default.
The Optik 4K STB connected to the 2nd T3200m is working great. The 1st T3200m connected to (Telus DSL) has the "WAN Ping block mode" enabled to maintain the default security setting of the primary router/modem.

Interesting.
Blocking ICPM Echo will definitely help multicasting but I would think both T3200M routers would behave the same with the same settings.
What devices do you have connected to the 1st T3200M that might be sending out a lot pings to the 2nd T3200M?
