Question about Home Phone / Landline Porting

Hello,

I am trying to port my ( Home Phone / Landline ) number from Rogers with Shaw over to TELUS and have some questions below that I am hoping to receive responses for so I can understand my situation and options moving forward.

  1. How long does a porting request for home phones / landlines take?
  2. Is it possible to have the porting request process sped up?
  3. Is it safe to cancel my Rogers with Shaw ( Home Phone / Landline ) plan once TELUS submits the porting request and the request is pending/in progress or do I have to wait until the TELUS porting request is fully completed?

Thank you to all who had taken the time to read this.

Hi eRsZlmA3V47N - Porting of the home phone takes about 2 business days when all the information is correct and accepted by the other provider. It can take longer if the information is incorrect.

To give you insight into the porting process - we submit the request with the information given at the time of the order being submitted. It is up to the provider how long the process takes. To be fair, they can't release the number without checking all the details so they protect you, your account, and your number.

It is not safe to cancel your number with the other provider as the porting is taking place. A cancelled number cannot be ported. Once the porting is completed, their account should automatically close as you no longer would have the service to be billed for.
