Moving overhead lines (relocating drop)
Hi, I'm wondering how I can get the drop at my house relocated to a different connection point. Right now the line is constantly being hit by a patio umbrella because of where it crosses the property...

Well... I worked at Telus for a long time. Even back to the BCTel days and far beyond..
As far as the drop is concerned, it's hard for me to help without seeing the situation.
However, couple things. My first choice is number one.
- You could call Customer Service and ask for a Mainland service person. The people in the , while the Philippines are nice people, don't know much about anything. Telus might charge you for a tech to come out.
- If you have a drop, I'll safely assume that your drop goes from your house to the feed that runs down the front street (or back alley), along the messenger (a heavy steel cable that supports the telephone cable). It may be possible to pull the cable to tighten it enough to clear any obstacles. At the house end, there should be a dead head (a wire hook that wraps around the jacket of your cable and attaches to a hook on your house, leaving a drip loop so water will run off the cable before reaching the house). Too many factors here, though, without seeing it. Talk to Telus and see if you can put in a trouble call to have the cable moved and go from there. The work is easy, but you probably have a house power feed nearby and it could be a scary situation.
