I've never heard of any provider offering a land line for $5, ever. That includes Shaw/Rogers. The most basic landline service costs far more regardless of provider. If you stopped paying for the service and your line was disconnected as a result before July of this year when you originally posted, and it hasn't been restored by now, that phone number may not even be available anymore as they're only held for so long before they're returned to the pool of available numbers to be used by anyone.

I guess I've been lucky here because as a Telus customer I've always been paying around $5/month for home phone service. I signed up with Telus in April 2022 for TV, internet and home phone and my home phone service was $5/month + taxes ( $20/month with a $15 credit each month ) for the full 2 year contract. When I renewed last April I got upgraded to Loyalty Home Phone which added a few options to my phone services ( the only I am using is Voice Mail ) but I was still paying only $5/month + taxes for my home phone service. Then a few months ago Telus started charging me an extra .69 for something called " E911 Municipal Call Answer Fee " so I started paying $5.69 + taxes/month but then a few weeks ago they added an extra $2 credit/month to my bill so I am now paying $3.69 + taxes/month ( $20.69 + taxes/month - $17 credit each month ) for Telus home phone services.
EDIT: I should add this - the home phone services are the only service I get from Telus from Telus that does not have the 24 month price guarantee from Telus. I've been told that my monthly rate for home phone services could go up at any time but that it would likely only be an increase of $1 or $2.

TELUS didnt offer a lind line. When I was about to cancel this land line because I wasnt using it they offer me $5 deal. Did you ever hear that sometimes some companies do that? I got $5 deal from SHAW for basic mobile. Again I explained them that I would like to keep my old number and that Im not using moble more that lets say 20 minutes per month and about 10 texts per month. Again it was just to keep mobile phone number active. Same with TELUS. What is the cost for TELUS to keep my phone number alive? $10 per month? Maintenance of land lines is demanding activity? Did yiou notice that they increased costs without infiorming their customer? I guess times are channging and TELUS is slowly going down therefore every $ is counting. I see they are selling their assets and properties to keep them afloat.
