When you turned off Smart Steering it creates 2 separate SSIDs. Did you verify you are trying to connect to your 5G SSID and not some other one (neighbours)? Go back to the router and verify the SSID it is using for 5G.
Yes my wifi is telus2103 and it has the two seperate id's of 2.4 and 5G, the 5G was connecting to my phones but now keeps saying incorrect password when trying to connect to 2103-5G. ive tried to reset network settings on the phone I saw suggested online but still says incorrect password after putting in the correct one

With smart steering disabled you can set different password per band. Maybe change the password for the 5Ghz band on the router and then try connecting your phone with the new password.
