ipv6 with DoT through controld

I have a Asus ROG GT-AXE 16000 router running merlin firmware , I set the telus gateway to bridge mode to my router and then set up DNS over TLS with controld . Everything works fine and the status page says ipv4 and ipv6 are both working. After about 2 hours or so the ipv6 says N/A . As soon as I change any setting like native to passthough and then back to native it works again. Even if I just change stateful and stateless or anything it will start working again for about 2 hours. I then enabled DDNS with asus and it work but still 2 hours later says N/A again on the status page. Can anyone help?!?!

Hi there, thanks for the detailed explanation. We can see you’ve done quite a bit of advanced configuration already.

Just to set expectations, when the TELUS gateway is in bridge mode and you’re using a third-party router with custom firmware (Asus Merlin), TELUS isn’t able to provide direct support for IPv6 behaviour beyond confirming that IPv6 is being delivered correctly to the gateway. In these setups, IPv6 handling, renewals, and stability are managed entirely by the third-party router and firmware. Because this involves custom firmware and third-party hardware, the best next steps would be:

    • Reviewing Asus Merlin logs around the 2-hour mark for DHCPv6 or RA renewal errors
    • Confirming DHCPv6-PD renewal timers in the router
    • Checking Merlin community forums or documentation for known IPv6 PD issues with TELUS specifically

My question i have now is that my hardware does not matter for Telus assignment of IPv6 static IP address, why can this not be done?

While your hardware may be capable, TELUS currently does not offer static IPv6 addressing to residential customers. IPv6 addresses are assigned dynamically, and the prefixes can change over time. This limitation isn’t based on your router or gateway hardware, it’s due to how TELUS provisions and manages IPv6 on the network side for residential services.
