Whenever I buy a device that asks for my Wi-Fi credentials, whether it comes from China or from a company whose privacy policies and reputation I’m unfamiliar with, my first instinct is to block its internet access at the router. However, these devices need to be able to communicate within the local network, which rules out the blacklist you mentioned.

This might be a long shot, but you can also try creating a Dedicated IoT Network: for example the T3200M router supports setting up a guest network. You can use this feature to create a separate network for your IoT devices and then restrict internet access:
Go to the Wireless settings in your router’s web interface.
Enable the Guest Network and configure it with a different SSID and password.
Connect your IoT devices to this guest network.
Apply firewall rules to restrict internet access for the guest network while allowing local communication.
