Home phone Voicemail not working

We have had Telus Voicemail for years on our landline. There were some service interruptions last week when we had no phone service. The phone is working fine now but our Voicemail no longer takes the messages and instead it now goes to the built in phone system. No luck trying to get thru to Telus tech support. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Depending on the phone, there should be a button to turn off the built-in answering machine on the main base station for the phones.

Your Telus landline voicemail likely defaulted to the phone's built-in system after the outage; try restarting your phone, checking the phone's settings for Tone mode, manually dialing *98 (or Telus's number) to reset/re-record your greeting, and consider calling Telus support again, asking for a line reset or to verify your voicemail feature on their end, as they might need to reactivate it after the service interruption.

When you say built in phone system, are you referring to an answering machine or the voicemail system itself but it's just a prompt asking for a mailbox number?

It is a built in system with an automated basic message.
On our Panasonic set of cordless phones.
It does take the message but we don't want to use it.
