18 days agoThe fibre line when installed in the unit is nearly invisible, even with popcorn ceilings. It's usually run along the edge of the ceiling to a single point where the ONT/gateway/router is installed. It's a nearly transparent and extremely thin fibre line. The only places it's slightly visible is when the fibre has to go around a corner since it can't be bent at sharp angles. Even then you really have to look for it to see it.
Wiring within the unit to individual devices comes down to the owner of the unit. In my case, my builder had ethernet run throughout my unit and so my fibre runs to the ONT from the entry above the unit door, and then it plugs in to the existing ethernet where the router is to all the other devices in my place.
With the newer Optik TV boxes, they can be operated completely over wifi using Telus's provided hardware. If you specifically use your own third party router and have the newest AndroidTV based Optik boxes, viewing TV on them would count against data usage. The older PVRs that has a hard drive in them are the only ones that really needs an ethernet connection.
