Download/Upload Speeds
I've been having intermittent wifi connections in my home. Sometimes it works fine, other times ridiculously slow and other times it's non-existent My modem is in the kitchen and wifi is fine on the TV and ipad in the living room. The problem is with my PC in an upstairs office.
I followed the troubleshooting recommendations and did a speed test, etc. My download speed was 57 mbps and my upload speed was 15.7 mbps. Are they normal speeds that I should be getting?

Thanks for your post! FuzzyLogic posted some great links to check out, and there always is the option of rebooting your equipment to see if that helps clear things up. From your post however, you mentioned that your TELUS gateway is located in the downstairs kitchen, which means that physical obstacles like walls, floors, and electrical interference can all degrade your Wi-Fi signal for sure. Since the connection is fine the closer you get (you mentioned your living room TV and iPad), the bottleneck may definitely be simply physical distance and coverage.
You could try repositioning your gateway (if possible) higher in the kitchen and in a central open area away from your kitchen appliances as they can definitely hamper the signal. Try switching to the 2.4 GHz band for further away devices (2.4 has better signal penetration through walls), or even looking in to adding one of our TELUS Wi-Fi Boost units, which are designed for this exact scenario. They act as a node in a network that you could place perhaps near the stairwell upstairs, acting as a bridge between your gateway and upstairs tech.
If none of that works, please do let us know and we can send you a private message to discuss further options with our Tech Support team!

This is exactly what began to happen to ours as well. I posted here about it. On Friday I spoke to a nice man who said he was from tech support, but I cannot confirm if he actual was or just a relay person. Anyway, someone at the office pressed a magic button and my WIFI speed went from under 100 to mostly 500mbps. I am on the 500 GB plan. This is since Friday afternoon to present.
I knew from initial installation (years ago) of fibre before the installer left that my internet speed was not that which I purchased. Mentioned to him and within a few minutes it went to correct speed.
There are different plans available. They supply the same modem etc. So of course there is a signal sent to allow x speed at your home. The question is why did my max speed get reduced and now yours.

Wi-fi speeds will vary depending on many factors. The speeds you are seeing are certainly adequate for most uses. The most you will get will depend on your Internet plan.
