Discovery channels shows gone
What the heck?? All Discovery channels are now changed and many shows that we watch are no longer available. Why didn’t Telus announce this prior to us losing the channels? Will we be compensated sin...

It looks like that's more of a Rogers concern TBH - they appear to be being anticompetitive by not distributing it anywhere but Rogers. It's not available on any third party provider, including ones that specifically indicated they were trying to obtain access: The great Canadian specialty TV shuffle begins, but it’s not going well for you | **bleep**stein

So I have a contract agreement that included these channels. Now Telus has taken them away and wants me to pay to subscribe to them?? This doesn't make sense. I am already paying to have these channels.\

11 months agoAll impacted channels have been replaced with new networks and programming as of January 1, 2025. While this wasn't a decision made by us, we do hope the channels that came in their place are just as entertaining!

The way this change was announced on the OPTIK guide was quite misleading. It implied the channels were simply changing names, not morphing into something completely different. And definitely NOT "just as entertaining".

No the new speed channel just has old reruns like monster garage! Really????

Almost everything is reruns on the Velocity and Discovery channel. Home and Food are a joke. Have a number to call but by comments here there seems to be no options. Funny when you can’t break a contract, but the provider can. Most of the programs we watched are gone. New channels seem to carry programs from 2011 to 2023. Or they show the same program 4 or 5 hours and then repeat or you can watch American pickers with the two fellows that have been deceased for years.

I agree!! *Flavour* is essentially the Gordon Ramsey channel (puke!), *Home* has nothing that I care to watch (except maybe Unsellable Houses) and *Oxygen True Crime* is mainly reruns of shows from other networks. They're all on a loop - miss it at 3? Catch it at 9. They're low-budget attempts at cloning successful channels. For what we're charged, I expect a much higher quality of product. It's more than disappointing, it's enraging!

No but Telus has made the decision to not carry the new Discovery Channel and others from Rogers.

Looks like the link is being altered by Telus' content filtering, but if you google the article title "The great Canadian specialty TV shuffle begins, but it’s not going" you'll find it.

Unfortunately the new programming offered by telus does not include a number of popular shows originally offered with discovery, which was included in my original channel package. I now have to pay an extra fee to access Discovery + which seems to be the only choice to gain access to these shows.
