Will the Xiaomi Mi 9T (Global Version) or the Redmi note 7 (Global Version) work with my Telus plan?

I currently have a plan with Telus and would like to buy a new Xiaomi phone to use with this plan. The two phones I am considering are the Xiaomi Redmi note 7 and the Xiaomi Mi 9T (both are global versions and "non-pro" models). I did a lot of troubleshooting online but all the tools are confusing me even more. I would like your advice before I make my purchase, thanks.
For clarification, I live in Ontario with a "905" area code number.

Your area code won't have anything to do with whether or not a phone will work. The phone must support the cellular frequency bands being used in Canada. Many imported Chinese phones will not work on LTE in Canada. Some won't work on 3G in cases either.

    Things to consider:

    • Xiaomi does NOT sell phones in or to North America
    • You will not have a manufacturer warranty at all since Xiaomi does NOT sell phones in North America.
    • There are a number online retailers that try to trick users into thinking they are related to Xiaomi when they are not.  That includes the sites stating they are a Xiaomi Distributor.
    • If you are on Amazon, or any other online marketplace (Walmart, Kijiji, BestBuy etc), Xiaomi doesn't sell there either. There are some Xiaomi phones listed on Amazon that claim to be Global Versions but the supported cellular bands are not compatible with LTE in Canada.
    • Depending on which online retailer you order the phone from, there is a chance you may end up with a fake device. Xiaomi even has instructions on how to verify the phone is legitimate but you can only verify after you've received the phone. If it's not the legitimate version or if they ship the non Global version it may not work here and you may not have any options left at that point.
    • Xiaomi products have been known to send information back to servers located in China.
