Samsung s20 plus 5G - Only LTE

Samsung s20 plus 5G - Only LTE
I know the phone is 5 years old - But I cannot get 5G anymore - According to the Telus Coverage website, I have 5G in my Area -
I am just wondering if anyone else is having this issue -

Thank you,

  • You’re definitely not the only one running into this with the S20 Plus 5G. Even though the hardware supports 5G, a few things can quietly block it. Carrier provisioning is a big one, especially on older plans or if the phone wasn’t originally sold by Telus. Software updates can also change network behavior, and some regions disable certain 5G bands over time. It’s also worth checking that network mode is set to allow 5G and not LTE-only. Lastly, Telus’s coverage map shows theoretical availability, but indoor signal strength and tower load can push the phone back to LTE. A SIM refresh or carrier reset sometimes fixes it.

There are a few things you can check:

    1. Ensure 5G is enabled by going to Settings --> Connections --> Mobile networks. Tap on Network mode, and ensure that it's selected.

    2. Is it an older SIM card from an older device such as a 4G device?

    3. Try resetting your Network Settings.

    4. Try togging Airplane Mode on and back off. Devices occasionally stay on strong LTE towers rather than searching for a 5G one.
