Question No One Seems To Have A Definitive Answer To...

I received an offer that has my interest to bring my 6 lines back to Telus.  However, I have talked to half a dozen people from Telus in the past few days, most of which are in the Executive Office, that can't seem to answer my question.

In January of 2023, I was roaming in the US with my main line which was using a OnePlus 8T.  It wirked on Telus for 3+ years on VoLTE before it was deprovisioned for no reason.  I troubleshooted everything I could with the device, including rolling back and reinstalling the device factory image.  Telus just kept saying, the device was no longer compatible.  I still had 2 and a half months out of the country and needed my phone to work.  I bought an s23 Ultra.  When I received that, I verified it was SIM unlocked and put my Telus SIM in it.  Device would not roam and was not being provisiomed for VoLTE.  I even went as far as to flash the W firmware (Canadian device firmware to it) and it still eould not provision.  It wasn't until I got in contact with a Senior Network Engineer, Ian, that I was told my s23 Ultra would never be provisioned because I did not buy it from Telus.  Literally, the only bluntly honest person I have talked to in the entire company.  When I got back to Canada, I took all of my lines to Rogers!

I still use my s23 Ultra along with a Pixel 9 Pro XL and a Motorola RAZR Ultra 2025, purchased in the US, which also work perfectly on Rogers, Bell, and Videotron/Freedom.  I went to two different Telus store locations with all 3 devices to see if they had a text SIM I could try in my devices.  I was told, they did not by both locations.  The last person I spoke to was from south Asia and apparently worked in escalations, couldn't even understand the issue to attempt to provide any sort of constructive and definitive answer.

All I want to know before accepting the offer to bring my lines back to Telus is...  Will my s23 Ultra (918U), Pixel 9 Pro XL (GGX8B), and my Motorola RAZR Ultra 2025 (XT2551-1) all be fully provisioned for Telus VoLTE if I bring my 6 lines back to Telus?

  • Thanks to whoever deleted my last post.  I forgot my IMEI was in that screenshot.  I have included one, now that I am home, with the IMEI removed.

The next one is the Engineering menu showing VoNR.

  • Thank you for the update Syaoran

I don't see any settings for VoNR or Vo5G in the SIM settings on my Pixel 8. Do I need to get it enabled on my account or something?

From my understanding.  Right now, it is only available in select locations, like parts of Edmonton and east Toronto.  The option will appear when it is supported on a tower you are connected to supports it, if the device is capable of it.

  • I have been back with Telus for a few weeks now.  When I finally rexeived my pSIM, I tested it in the s23 Ultra Ian from the Senior Network Engineering Team told md almost 2 and a half years ago would never be provisioned because I purchased it from T-Mobile USA.  It worked!  VoLTE showed up, 5G+ app, and everything worked as expected.  Nice to see Telus reverse changes on a stupid policy that never should have been implemented in the first place.  I tried my Moto RAZR Ultra 2025 purchased directly from Motorola USA.  Not only did everything work as expect.  VoNR was also enabled.  I tested it with a few calls with the engineering menu open and it was indeed working.  Very happy with this!  I alao tried my Pixel 9 Pro XL purchased from T-Mobile USA that is running Graphene OS.  Everything works, although VoNR.

I wasn't expecting VoNR to be oirking but that has made me keep my SIM in my Moto RAZR Ultra 2025.  Telus really needs to advertize that this is working, although only in very select places currently.  The call quality is definitely an improvement, which is why I noticed in the first place that it was enabled.  I know Bell also has select VoNR sites but none of those are in my current area to test.

This is the Telus I came to from Rogers way back but changes in the wrong direction forced me to leave in 2023.  Stay on thia oath, please!

Thanks for sharing this information Syaoran  , I have an S25 Plus that comes directly from Samsung and no issues with 5G so far. However, I didn't get a chance to travel a lot for the last couple months so I can't confirm it's good everywhere.

Hello. We checked in with our network team who advised that they should be provisioned with VoLTE/IMS, but also for us to get you to check this page out: https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/how-to-use-volte

If you port in and have any issues, you can reach out to us here and we'll get you connected with our network team to investigate.

Are you confiing the policy has change, at least to some degree?  I have one line I can port in next week to test with my 3 devices.  If they don't provision and there is no resolution.  I don't care about that number enough to keep it.  If things do work properly on all 3 devices, then my other 5 lines will return to Telus.
