Number port protected

I am switching from Koodo to another provider. They have tried to port my number but said Koodo has port protection on it. What the heck is that? I never signed up for that. I want my number. Two days before they say they will give me a call back! I have called my new provider, they have a number to call and people to talk to immediately imagine that Koodo and Telus!!
