3G shutdown and concerns/questions about data

If your phone has the ability to turn off data, why are you expecting that will change unless you want it to change? Your $15 talk and text plan is still being offered, limited to 100 minutes talk. I see a current offer $25 which is unlimited talk & text.
I'm not sure. This upcoming 3G shutdown has me frazzled and I may not even know what I'm talking about.
From what I understand, my calls and texts currently run through 3G and the data I don't use would run through 4GLTE. Once the 3G network is shutdown all calls, texts and the data I don't use would run though 4GLTE. Once 3G is gone it seems that I would need to turn off the data block to continue receiving calls and texts.
I could be completely misunderstanding this whole thing though.
