Telus upping my 50Mpbs internet $9.00 more a month

Here I am on a copper wire internet which is supposed to give 50Mpbs which at its best speed is 25Mpbs and that’s not happening very often. Telus just jacked up my monthly fee by $9.00, my current contract is only a few months old, few months ago I renewed my contract & a month or so after renewing they, up my charges to a level that would have been charged had I not renewed it. Telus is supposed to upgrade to fibre we don’t know when but it’s not any time soon.when I go online and look at the Telus rate 50Mpbs it show $40.00 mine was $37.24 now they want $46.90. Shaw is starting to lok pretty good.

  • Gary, have you read your approved contract to see if price increase within the contract period is mentioned?

You can find it within your online account.

Hello Gary8, thanks for reaching out to us here, and I hear your frustration loud and clear. Expecting 50 Mbps and getting half that—while seeing your monthly bill go up right after a renewal—is a completely valid reason to feel upset.

Were you able to contact our support team in regards to this situation ? Maybe it's a distance issue? Copper wire performance degrades over physical distance. If you’re getting 25 Mbps consistently, your modem may have retrained to a single copper pair instead of a bonded pair (if you are on a dual-line setup). Restart your Wi-Fi Hub, but if speeds remain capped near 25 Mbps, our network technicians need to run a copper line loop test to verify attenuation levels and re-sync your profile.

Regarding your plan, were you bale to speak with an agent about your current offer ?

My wifi strength is very seldom 25Mpbs, usually it is in the  teens there is nothing that can be done until Telus does an upgrade which apparently they are going to do accordingly to letters we have received from Telus. I have contacted the 3rd party that has the contract to do the upgrade apparently they are in the planning stages, Time will tell
