Google messages - Text messages
Why do I get charged when sending messages using Google Messages (RCS)? I am not using a SMS service. I am even using Wi-Fi, no data plan.

RCS requires it to be enabled for both sender and recipient. If the recipient doesn't have it enabled then the message is sent via SMS.

Depending on the device you are using it may determine it can't send as RCS and converts it to SMS. This is an option that you may have enabled:
