Most Anticipated
Upload (Season 4) - Prime Video
The final season of the hit sci-fi comedy Upload is finally here, with the last 4 episodes dropping on Prime Video. It's been a while since the last season dropped, so I'm pumped that we'll finally get to see how everything ends for Nathan and Nora. For those less familiar, Upload is set in the near future, where technology has advanced enough to offer the ability for the deceased to upload their consciousness into a pleasant digital afterlife. Pleasant, that is if you can afford it. The story revolves around the recently deceased Nathan Brown, who dies prematurely and is uploaded into the very expensive Lakeview afterlife. While adjusting to his new digital existence, Nathan bonds with his (still living) customer service rep Nora as they slowly start to uncover the mystery surrounding his death.
I'm a huge fan of this series, and love how it mixes side-splitting comedy with the slight technological dread of other great sci-fi series such as Black Mirror. It's fun to watch Nathan adapt to his crazy new digital afterlife, while simultaneously delivering a solid murder mystery plot to keep you on the edge of your seat. From digital relationships that cross the barrier of death, to the possibility of 'downloading' your consciousness back in to a new real body in the land of the living, this series touches upon a lot of poignant questions. And it's a blast to watch as you go along. Don't miss the last episodes of the great series Upload when they drop August 25 on Prime Video!
What I'm Watching Now
Ballard (Season 1) - Prime Video
Only a few months after one of my all time favorite detective series 'Bosch' ended its fantastic 10 year run, 'Ballard' begins to pick things right back up. Set in the same universe (and based on the novels from the same author as Bosch), Renée Ballard works the LAPD's 'Cold Case Division', leading a team of volunteers to try to solve old unsolved homicides. Recently ousted from the force's good graces for blowing the whistle on a popular cop, she must navigate her new position and protect herself after a new investigation uncovers a web of corruption that threatens to bury her once and for all.
I'm about halfway through the season, and so far am absolutely loving it. There are a million police procedurals to choose from nowadays, so it takes something special to rise above the rest. Bosch had it. Ballard has it. Smart writing with one main homicide case that ties through the entire season, while Ballard solves other smaller cases in each episode. Incredible blasts of quick action, and enough plot twists to always keep you guessing. All 10 episodes of the first season of Ballard are available now, and it's great to see a number of familiar faces from Bosch back for cameos as well! Be sure to check out the first season, streaming now on Prime Video!
